Trip to Korea (Part 3: Orbitronics Workshop)

After spending time at POSTECH, I spend the weekend with my parents. We had nice time together, and it was time for me to relax a bit. Of course, I tried to eat as many nice home made dishes as possible. Since my suitcases arrived, I was able to give them all the good from France and Germany!

On Sunday evening, I went to Daejeon to participate in the orbitronics workshop at KAIST. This was in fact the main reason for me to come to Korea because it is probably the most important scientific meeting of the year for me. It was the second workshop of this new research field since the last one which I organized in Ingelheim, Germany. I knew roughly 70% of the speakers, and it was nice to see everyone and catch up. For the rest, they also presented very fresh perspective from various angles, from which I leanred a lot.

I noticed that I do not have any picture during the workshop because it was very intense and busy three days. We started everyday before 9 am and the workshop ended near 7 pm, and we had very small breaks between lectures. This time, I presented about a very fundamental aspect that I discovered from my recent project: time-reversibility of quantum mechanics and reciprocal relations, which I got very excited about in recent months. I was a bit worried because it is not an easy topic to present, but it all went well. I believe everyone wants to know fundamentals, which can be so profound and out of our intuition sometimes.

Although I knew most of the works presented at the workshop from their papers, it was very nice to see their unique “views” on those problems and discuss, though I wish we had more time because the schedule was really tight. But overall, I enjoyed very much and thank the organizers (Kyung-Jin Lee, Hyun-Woo Lee, and Vincent Cros) for inviting me to the wonderful workshop. The workshop was big success thanks to great organization. Everything was very smooth, and we even received souvenirs of Korea!
