School on Orbital Currents in Barcelona

Soon after I returned back to Germany from the trip to Korea, I went to another trip to Barcelona. I joined the School on Orbital Currents in ICMAB as one of the lectureres. My lecture slides can be downloaded from the following link. The other lecturers were Tatiana G. Rappoport (Uni Rio de Janeiro), Enric Canadell (ICMAB), Hyun-Woo Lee (POSTECH), Aurélien Manchon (CINaM Aix-Marseille Uni), and Can Onur Avci (ICMAB). Each covered different aspects in orbitronics, and the combination of all made the entire school program very rich.

Everything was nicely organized by by Josep Fontcuberta and Gervasi Herranz and the team at ICMAB. I really appreciate for their great organization. All I had to do was to give a lecture and follow the schedule as organized. The program turned out to be very successful by offering everyone in the world (~ 50 people on-site and ~100 people online) a chance to learn this new growing subject. In every lecture, many questions were raised and we had enough time to exchange our thoughts and discuss various issues.

Together with all the organizers, lectureres, and session chairs

After the long day (we started from 8 am, and everything finished around 8 pm), all the organizers, lectureres, and session chairs spent chilling evening over nice food and wine. I personally enjoy very much trying different food whenever I travel to another place for work or for vacation. The food is undoubltly the heart of culture. Moreover, everyone can enjoy and share opinion, like comparing with similar food from their own cultures. We had three starters (cold shirimps with vinegar and herbs, slightly frozen figs with fresh mozarella, and toasts with melted cheese and jamon). As a main dish, I chose Fideuà, Paella-like dish originated from Valencia region. By the way, I learned that I must not start a conversation with Spanish people how to make Paella! People from every region has strong opinion on this, almost like a religion. Together with food and wine, we talked about life, science, and hobbies. The dinner ended after midnight (typical in Spain). Although my stomach was full, I fell asleep in my hotel room while sitting on my bed 🙂
