One problem at a time

In recent two weeks, I have been enjoying everyday moments of doing “usual research works;

  • Discuss with colleagues, read papers, etc. Get inspired in all possible ways.
  • Think hard and formulate a scientific question to answer.
  • Refine the question into a theoretical physics problem.
  • Derive equations and write codes.
  • Get frustrated and overcome technical challenges (repeat N times…)
  • Solve it.
  • See the results.
  • Be surprised.
  • Think again, hard.
  • See the results again.
  • Realize that I was wrong.
  • Explain the results.
  • Talk to colleagues that everything finally make sense and try to convince them.
  • Leave the office with satisfaction.
  • Spend afternoon in the city or park and open a bottle of wine.

Although it wasn’t my plan to work on the current problem because I already have several papers to write and I didn’t want to pile up more results. But over several months, I got pretty excited with ideas from various places and started to engage myself more seriously. It was entirely a spontaneous thing; I sometimes postpone the duties which are in fact more urgent. But I am very happy spending time doing usual scientific research and appreciate every moment (of series of frustration everyday).
